Prop bet style weekend
Had an interesting weekend.
Pokerroom.com, the first site at which I played, was running a promotion that I simply had to take a crack at. You got points for 1st or 2nd in 10 person single table tournaments and for 1st in shorthanded (5 person) single table tournaments. Having played many of these in the past and being quite adept at them I decided to go after it.
The top 10 people would get an entry into a 20,000 dollar single table tournament, 10th place got 1k, 1st, 5k.
The promotion began at midnight EDT, 9 p.m. my time and ended 72 hours later.
I ended up playing about 44 hours and would have played more, but I allowed myself to sleep too much, watched the US play their qualifying match versus Mexico (they won and are now for sure in the World Cup--yay!), and cut my hand and had to have many sutures put in.
I got 16th and played for about 32 hours straight at the end until I realized I couldn't make up enough ground on the 10th place person.
If I'd played at the same rate and played for 58 hours, I would have made it easily.
I ended up winning about 12 10 person tables, got 2nd at about 4 of them, and got 1st at some 90 shorthanded tables for 1845 points.
It was an exciting, exhausting and interesting experience leaving me 500 bucks ahead despite only playing 5 dollar tournaments in all but like 2 cases. I played 4 tables simultaneously nearly the whole time.
I did win a pokerroom beanie for being in the top 100. :P
They plan on doing this promotion again and if they do, I'll be ready. My rate was higher later in the competition when I discovered the turbo shorthanded tables and how easy they were to win. I lost an obscene number of times to bad beats or other unlucky situations heads up or I otherwise would have been a lot closer. I quit with a little over 2 hours to go because I realized I wasn't going to make it.
